Learning

Lucas is getting so smart. It is fun to watch him figure things out. He knows where things go now. You can ask him about things and you can see he understands. If I ask the dogs, "Do you want to go out?," Lucas runs to the front door to help let them out. When he is starting down the stairs, he thinks he can do it standing up. If you tell him, "Sit down," he knows what that means, and he sits to go down the stairs. When we put Stitch in the kennel, Lucas knows that the dog gets a treat, so he goes to the laundry room where the treats are. Then I give the treat to Lucas, and he drops it into the dog kennel. He is not talking yet, but he makes a "ba" sound sometimes when we we are leaving. He also says "ma ma ma ma ma" and "da da da da da," but I don't think he know exactly what he means. He can climb onto his little swing set now, so he can go down the slide by himself. He has finally figured out how to climb up and sit on his rocking horse, although he was determined to stand on it first. He loves to push buttons. He turns the TV on and adjusts the volume. He pushes the page button on the cordless phone's base. This is all pretty simple stuff, but it is amazing to see him figuring it all out.

Time flies. . .

It is amazing how the time flies in Lucas' world. Now that he is my world, that means time is flying for me also. We just improved our internet connection, so maybe I'll be inspired to write more.

Lucas is a busy body. He is learning that things have their place. Most of those places are just out of his reach. That is a minor and temporary deterrent, because he knows that sooner or later, we will slip and leave something fun within grasp. In fact, it is a million different things, and by the time we rescue one item, he is on to the next. He is a bit of a monkey. He loves to climb. We can't seem to keep his feet on the ground. He has not completely mastered sitting on his rocking horse, and we have caught him trying to stand on it. In a wink, he will be standing on the couch or the futon. Climbing down is tricky, but up is easy.

Lucas is eating more "real" food these days. We can hardly trick him into eating baby food, so maybe it is time to give that up. He loves bread. Toast with cheese or peanut butter is perfect. He likes to pick at mixed vegetables, but a banana is a treat.
